Acer launches world's thinnest laptop at 8.98mm

accreditation

Johannesburg - Computer-manufacturer Acer has launched the world’s thinnest laptop. Its new Swift 7 measures a mere 8.98 mm.

Acer revealed the almost paper thin laptop at the Consumer Electronic Showcase (CES) in Las Vegas. The Swift offers an always-connected PC running Windows 10 with an Intel Core i7 processor for less than a centimeter.

Always-connected PCs with built-in 4G LTE require an internet connection and many of the machine’s features are online-based.

The Swift 7 will be slightly larger than double the size of a standard USB port of 4mm, to house the unit and components supporting it.

"We're extremely proud to make the world's thinnest laptop," said Jerry Kao, Acer’s president of IT products business said. "The new Swift 7 steps up the game with an even slimmer chassis, powerful performance and always-on 4G LTE connectivity for professionals on the go."

The Acer Swift 7’s features 256 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM memory, keeping multitasking smooth and responsive. The device also features a fingerprint reader and 14-inch Full HD IPS display with Corning Gorilla Glass for protection.

Other top manufacturers including HP and Dell also showcased their latest PCs at CES, the world's biggest tech event.

HP presented the new Envy X2, an always-connected PC built for creating content, working and entertainment from anywhere, with up to 16.5 hours of battery life, as measured by the manufacturer. The Envy X2 features an Intel Core processor performance and full Windows applications.

Dell in turn, launched its all-new Inspiron 5280 2-in-1 machine with built-in 4G LTE, which will be available in China with two months' free LTE data traffic.

The Inspiron 5280 features an Intel Core i7 processor and Windows 10.

These new devices join the lineup of always-connected PCs available today such as the Google Pixelbook, Samsung's Galaxy Book 12 and Xiaomi's Mi Notebook Air in China.
