Polokwane - A delegation of Limpopo officials left for China on Sunday to explore investment opportunities in the provinces of Henan and Anhui.
Premier Stanley Mathabatha is being accompanied by MECs for economic development, environment and tourism Seaparo Sekoati and agriculture and rural development Joyce Matshoge.
Provincial spokesperson Phuti Seloba said China had become South Africa`s largest trading partner since 2010.
But by the end of 2013, South Africa had exported only about R81bn worth of goods and services to China, and imported R112bn worth of Chinese goods and services. This created a negative trade balance of R31bn for South Africa, Seloba said.
He said Limpopo was therefore seeking investment opportunities, particularly within the mining, agricultural and tourism sectors.
The initiative is being led by the Limpopo Economic Development Agency, which will sign an investment partnership with the provinces of Henan and Anhui.
While Premier Mathabatha is away, MEC for Treasury, Kgolane Phala will act as the Premier of the province.
