Twitter reacts to #Zexit with #ZumaIsGoneParty memes

Johannesburg - Mzansi is once again taking to social networks with memes, with Twitter and Facebook seeing an influx of images and jokes around Jacob Zuma’s refusal to step down as president of South Africa.

Earlier on Tuesday, the rand reacted positively to news that the ANC has given Zuma an ultimatum to step down.

So too did social media users, who continued to make fun of the president for refusing to step down.

#Zexit and #ZumaIsGoneParty have been dominating social networks and were spawned shortly after news that the president might step down last week.

News24 reported on Tuesday that the ANC national executive committee had decided to recall Zuma after a marathon meeting.

Fin24 reported that the local currency held steady in the high R11.90s to the dollar for most of Monday, on the back of dollar weakness and signs of Zuma's imminent departure, strengthening almost 1% to trade at R11.88/$ by 16:30 on Monday.

The local unit weakened 0.3% to R11.97/$ at 03:28, shortly after news broke that Zuma had been given an ultimatum to resign after yet again refusing a request to resign voluntarily.
