Luxurious retirement hotel for Plettenberg Bay

Plettenberg Bay - A luxury retirement hotel offering stunning sea and mountain views named Plett Platinum is being planned for Plettenberg Bay.

The hotel – that will be conveniently located close to all important shops - will present to 32 investors, retirees and people approaching retirement age an opportunity to invest in a four storey state of the art building that offers different levels of care to residents, depending on their health.

Kevin Engelsman, managing director for Seeff Properties in Plettenberg Bay, says the hotel caters for every type of retiree, from those who wish to live independently but within a safe environment to those who need assisted living and also to the frail elderly who need specialised medical attention 24 hours a day.

Engelsman says independent living in the hotel boasts luxury style living in your own apartment and includes ten main meals per month (or more if you wish), cleaning services, a nurse on call 24 hours per day and general health monitoring by a doctor among other things and will cost R3 500 per month for the first occupant and R 2 000 per month for the second occupant.

Assisted living includes living in your own luxury apartment, a main meal daily, cleaning services and laundry of bed linen, daily making of beds if required, a 24 hour nurses call system, daily showering and dressing assistance if required, visits from the duty nursing sister and general health monitoring in conjunction with the resident’s doctor among others services. The monthly rate for this option is R 9 500 for the first occupant and R7 500 for the second occupant.

Frail care includes private single rooms with an en suite basin and toilet, 24 hour care by a nursing team, all meals, activities by an occupational therapist and daily laundry and cleaning services amongst others. The monthly rate is R20 000 per month for residents and R25 000 per month for non-residents.

Engelsman says the ground floor of the hotel consists of a reception area, comprehensively equipped luxury lounge and dining room, library, gym, spa, aqua-pool, hairdresser and multipurpose room. There is also a state of the art care centre with a nurse’s station and seven frail care suites with all the necessary ancillary uses.

“There are six one bedroom and 26 two bedroom luxury en-suite apartments, while some of the first-floor apartments open onto the rooftop garden. Both the other floors also have a small, discreet nursing station.

Apartments range in size from 50m² to 85m² including private balconies and range in price from R2.2m to R3.7m. There is also basement parking. All prices include VAT and transfer duty, but exclude bond registration costs.

Building will commence once 60% presales of the apartments have been achieved.

“To date 15 apartments have been sold with the biggest demand coming from people along the Garden Route.

A 10% deposit will secure an apartment, but no other payment is required until transfer middle 2018. There is no age restriction on a purchaser, but tenants and occupants of the apartments must be older than 50 years.

Apartments can be purchased as investments and rented to persons older than 50 years of age, but it is a requirement that residents should conclude a contract for caring services by Plett Platinum Management Company.
