New post-Brexit deal won't undo existing trade agreements with South Africa – expert

While the European Union and the United Kingdom have finally reached a trade deal post-Brexit, South Africa and other member countries of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) and Mozambique will be able to continue trading with the respective trade blocs under existing trade agreements.

The final Brexit deal had been agreed to last week – it is to be ratified by the UK Parliament on Thursday 30 December and the European Parliament later in 2021. The preferential trade agreement between the UK and EU known as the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) will be applied on a provisional basis until 28 February 2021, Gerhard Erasmus founder of the Tralac Trade Law centre said in a blog post.
