Senior staff at Swiss engineering group ABB shared emails discussing appointing unqualified subcontractors who "don't do anything for us" but "cash in" because of political connections in order to win work at Kusile power station.
References to the emails form part of a plea deal that ABB South Africa entered into with the US Department of Justice (DOJ) last month.
As part of the agreement ABB SA, a subsidiary of the Zurich-headquartered multinational, pleaded guilty to one count of violating the anti-bribery provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices AC.
