President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Friday afternoon announce the date that the new national minimum wage will be effective from at a ceremony in Kliptown, Soweto.

Ramaphosa signed the National Minimum Wage Bill, which is R20 an hour, and three related bills into law in late November.

The event will be attended by representatives of business, organised labour and community groups.

In a media release on Thursday morning, government said that Kliptown was chosen due to its importance in SA’s liberation history as the site of the adoption of the Freedom Charter.
