Eskom on Monday morning commenced with stage 2 load shedding, saying the rotational power cuts would likely continue until 22:00.
This after it had on Sunday warned of a full day of load shedding on Monday, saying a number of power generating units were still out of service.
The power utility had hoped to have enough generating units functioning to not have to ration electricity at the start of the week.
Stage 2 load shedding allows for 2000 megawatts to be shed from the national grid.
