The power grid is showing signs of stabilising in the short term, Eskom said on Thursday evening.
As at 16:30, no unit trips had been reported, it added. Unplanned outages or breakdowns stood at 11 576MW.
Eskom is working to reduce breakdowns to below 9 500 MW.
"We also managed to preserve our diesel stock as we did not have to operate the open cycle gas turbines today," the power utility said in a statement.
On Wednesday, Eskom said no load shedding was expected for the rest of the week, despite scheduled maintenance of two major generating units on Thursday.
All three units that suffered an unplanned outage as a result of flooding that caused coal handling problems are back online but not at full capacity, the power utility added.
Although no load shedding is expected, the system is vulnerable and this might change, Eskom said.
