Local internet video service ShowMax has finally switched on support for Google Chromecast and the latest Apple TV devices.

This comes after ShowMax launched for web and mobile in August last year. Meanwhile, a rival to ShowMax, US streaming service Netflix, launched in South Africa in January.
ShowMax on Friday hinted that it could expand its service to more devices.
“One way or the other, we aim to have a solution for anyone wanting to watch ShowMax using whichever device is most convenient,” said Mike Raath, ShowMax chief technology officer in a statement.

“When Netflix launched in SA it had support for the old Apple TV (which I've owned for some time) and the new one (which I also own now). I think they (ShowMax) underestimated how many people own Apple TV boxes in SA and should have done their homework. I cancelled my Showmax subscription at the start of Feb 2016 when the Apple TV app, which was promised for end of 2015 didn't materialise. I was planning to re-subscribe once the app came out but have since found that Netflix is more than sufficient so they probably won't see me again.”

“How about adding other streaming devices like Roku and Android devices as well? Apple and Chromecast are just two of the devices available.”
