"IN RESPONSE to your news story on Tuesday [SA Post Office says there's no chaos], I can attest to the fact that there has been a catastrophic falling off in efficiency when it comes to inbound parcels," writes Fin24 user Mark Ingle.
"Shortly after the strike ended in November 2014, I noticed that all incoming parcels from overseas had been opened and then resealed. Why I have no idea.
"During the course of December, the flow of parcels dried up altogether. I am still waiting for five parcels that were posted at different times from five different locations overseas in November/December 2014.
"All inquiries lead nowhere - no one seems to have any grasp of what is going on.
"This is a crisis that warrants urgent ministerial intervention. Something has gone drastically awry.
"Up until the beginning of the strike last year this was an efficient operation and I would estimate only between one and two percent of packages went missing. In recent weeks I have received nothing whatsoever and am now anxiously awaiting around 20 packages.
"As things stand at present it is an unmitigated disaster - all the more so because there is no obvious explanation for the chaos. And 'chaos' it surely is.
"Thank you for reporting on this sorry state of affairs and please continue to do so. The country simply cannot afford even further damage to the reputation of its postal system."
