Johannesburg - Video streaming service, YouTube has announced their new live YouTube TV service, which will feature unlimited digital video recording to compete with US cable TV.
Christian Oestlien, company product management director said that from research they had found that people wanted a TV-watching experience more that was more like YouTube.

“We’re bringing the best of the YouTube experience to live TV. To do this, we’ve worked closely with our network and affiliate partners to evolve TV for the way we watch today,”
YouTube TV will offer users the opportunity to watch whatever they want whenever they want from a range of live-broadcasted TV channels like FX, Fox, Disney and the National Geographic Channel, as well as record at unlimited number of programmes.
While the service is yet to be announced for South Africans or the rest of the world, YouTube TV might not be able to beat other streaming services like ShowMax and Netflix already available locally, with an initial price of $35 (approximately R459) suggested for YouTube TV, exponentially higher than local services.
The service is expected to cost even more than cheaper DStv packages.
YouTube TV is expected to offer live TV streaming from ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, regional sports networks and other popular cable networks.

This means users will be able to watch shows like “Empire,” “The Voice,” “The Big Bang Theory” and “Scandal,” as well as live sports.
YouTube have also partnered with local TV stations, to offer local news based on where users live.
The service will make use of a cloud DVR, with no storage limits which can record as many shows as desired by the user, simultaneously which will be stored for nine months.
The service will also be offered on all the users devices from mobile to internet TV, available on Android and iOS.
