Johannesburg - A soon to be released version of instant messaging app, WhatsApp will be offering 100s of new emojis, including gender diverse icons and an emoji for “¯\_(",)_/¯”.

Often typed out since the days of regular SMSs without an internet connect, the ‘shrug’ emoji will be available in a soon to be released version of WhatsApp.

Fin24 managed to access the beta version of WhatsApp, comparing it to the current official version. Below then are a number of new emojis set to grace smartphone screens in coming months.

The new list of emojis feature Scientists, Teachers , Judges and Harambe (Gorilla).

All new occupation emojis added also feature both male and female icons. Meanwhile, races can also be customised.

New foods and beverages, and sports have also been included to the list of already existing emojis.

The flag section has been updated to include a white flag, black flag, checker flag, check point flag and an LGBT flag.
