UPDATE: WhatsApp services restored by 11:15am.
UPDATE: Some users have reported WhatsApp to be working from 11am.
Johannesburg - Instant messenger, WhatsApp is currently experiencing downtime in South Africa and in other countries across the world.
Over 500 reports from South Africa were submitted to outage reporting website, Downdetector, from 10:18am.
The web-based application is currently not allowing its users to send or receive messages.
The social networking app, owned by Facebook, which allows users to share images and videos, as well as make and receive video and voice calls, was reported to have experienced numerous issues from users across social networks.
Scores of users from India, South Africa and the UK took to microblogging social network, Twitter, lamenting the issue.
