Johannesburg - Faulty hardware has disrupted Telkom email services for several customers on Monday and Tuesday.
The company said on its Facebook page on Monday that it’s “experiencing an interruption in service with our Telkom internet mail services” and that it’s “urgently working to resolve the issue”.
Some social media users were still complaining of the email outage on Tuesday morning.
Fin24 understands that only some Telkom email users experienced the downtime owing to faulty hardware, which the company replaced on Monday. Telkom, though, has not commented on the extent of the outage.
Fin24 further understands that owing to the new hardware being synced, the email glitch is expected to be fully resolved during the course of Tuesday.
“Telkom has confirmed that the defective hardware was replaced already,” Telkom told Fin24.

#Telkom email servers down for 2nd day. Well done Telkom! You've worked hard to better your previous impressive record for crappy service.

Telkom is not the first major service provider to suffer email downtime in recent years.
In 2014, Yahoo mail services across parts of the UK and US went down for 11 days owing to a severed underwater cable. And in March last year, Google’s Gmail briefly went down in UK, Netherlands, Iceland, France and India.f
In October last year, local internet service provider MWEB also suffered an email services glitch.
