Johannesburg - Joburgers have been promised “unlimited, uncompromised, super-fast Wi-Fi” at Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square.
Jonathan Sinden, Liberty Two Degrees’ Asset Management executive of Sandton City and Nelson Mandela Square, said that they wanted to bring the new experience to shoppers.
“This is something that we are focusing on strategically at every touch point, so that our consumers want to stay and play in our spaces. We are confident that the implementation of free and uncapped Wi-Fi for our shoppers is sure to meet the emerging social trends of ‘being connected on-the-go,” Sinden said.

The upmarket shopping and restaurant precinct is not the first in the city to offer free Wi-Fi, with plans afoot to have all four million citizens in Johannesburg connected to free Wi-Fi within five years.
Zolani Matabese, head of Broadband for the City of Johannesburg, previously told Fin24 that the ultimate plan is to enable all the city's citizens to connect to free Wi-Fi.
Free Wi-Fi has already been rolled out along Johannesburg’s BRT [Bus Rapid Transport] stations, at rates offices and at theatres, which allow people access to 300MB per day.
According to Matabese, offering free Wi-Fi to all Johannesburg residents opens opportunities for employment and empowerment.
