SA shopping app hits 130 000 users

Cape Town – Local shopping application SnapnSave announced that it has hit 130 000 users, and paid out over R500 000 in first nine months of operation.

The Cape Town-based startup works by funnelling offers to smartphone users who then claim cash back on purchases by taking pictures of till slips.

“Mobile coupons are booming in South Africa. Unlike some of the big loyalty programmes, the benefit with SnapnSave is that shoppers can save no matter where they shop,” said SnapnSave chief executive Mark Bradshaw.

Loyalty programmes have emerged as a key component of e-commerce as retailers race to market their goods and services to an increasingly mobile consumer base.

Research firm Forrester said that e-commerce is set to expand and in the US, the company predicted that online sales will top $500bn by 2020, up from $373bn in 2016.

SnanSave works with purchases at major retailers including Pick n Pay, Spar, Checkers, Shoprite and Woolworths, among others and subscribers can redeem cash at Dischem, Pick n Pay, Cellucity and others.
