LG to lift veil on massive 88-inch UHD TV at CES

Johannesburg - While many are yet to own an ultra high definition (UHD) TV, South Korean electronics manufacturer LG has announced an 8K TV set to be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES).

Technology website Engadget reported that the TV is the largest and highest-resolution OLED screen to date.

During the conference, held annually in Las Vegas in January, the company is set to showcase its latest development in TV technology with the 88-inch 8K OLED display.

In 2016, LG launched what was touted as the next big step for the industry with the remarkable characteristic of OLED TVs being as thin as just four credit cards.

First in the market for TVs was LED units, which were mainly sold as full HD and UHD TVs.

LED TVs use a series of lights and liquid to produce a picture on the screen, while OLED TVs make use of molecules and light produced by electricity to form a display picture.

OLED TVs produce a pure black colour in displays, which results in brighter and more vivid colours.

At CES 2018 - expected to run from January 7 to 9 - LG is also expected to introduce upgraded models of its monitor lineup with Nano IPS technology that takes colour reproduction capabilities to a new level.

Nano IPS technology involves the application of nanometer-sized particles to the screen’s LED to absorb excess light wavelengths.

LG’s new 32-inch UHD 4K monitor (model 32UK950) is the first to offer its advanced Nano IPS technology.

The company said this enhances the intensity and purity of on-screen colours for a more accurate and life-like viewing experience.
