Cape Town - Minister of Energy Tina Joemat-Pettersson has denounced fake Facebook and Twitter accounts in her name.
“The current Facebook account is fictitious albeit bearing over 4 900 friends linked to it and populated with regular updates that are punctuated with comments and photographs whilst the Twitter one is less active,” the energy ministry said in a statement.

Evidence suggests that the Facebook and Twitter pages have been taken down because they no longer appears on the social networks.
Joemat-Pettersson has attracted controversy for pushing ahead with a nuclear build programme.
However, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s 2016 Budget Speech made scant mention of details of the programme expected to cost billions.
Joemat-Pettersson is also just the latest minister to be hit with fake social media accounts.
When Des van Rooyen was briefly made Minister of Finance in December last year, he moved to distance himself from a fake Twitter account that had over 2 600 followers.
Meanwhile, National Treasury warned earlier this month about a fake email scam using the name of the current Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan.
National Treasury warned South Africans about fake emails coming from a pravin.gordhan@gmail.com gmail address asking citizens to pay their taxes.
National Treasury said that the finance minister definitely does not have a gmail account and that the emails are a scam.
