Johannesburg - Mobile screen repair stores are charging up to R14 999 to replace the screen on an Apple iPhone X, just a touch below the device's retail cost of R20 499 to R23 999.
While many insurance companies and retailers offer screen insurance, not all stores are authorised retailers and some offer generic repair screens.
The Core Group, the official distributor of Apple products, on Thursday said its store will now offer replacements for accidentally cracked iPhone screens at iStore outlets and Digicape from Monday 29 January.
This will be the first time local iPhone users can have replacements done by an Apple authorised service provider, with a genuine Apple replacement screen.
Core Group warned that screen repairs at unauthorised vendors could impair functionality and warranties.
“Furthermore, using counterfeit or third-party parts can cause safety issues and could void the warranty on your iPhone. Screen repairs booked through iStore or Digicape ensure that there is no compromise on functionality, warranties remain valid and trade-in values are secure,” Core said.
iStore and Digicape replace screens from the iPhone 6S and newer models at prices starting from R2 999, with the iPhone X the most expensive at R 5 999.
