Johannesburg - A gas explosion knocked out fibre-optic cables affecting internet connections in parts of Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Fibre installation and internet and voice service provider, BitCo tweeted that the explosion had burnt through its fibre cables.
“Gas explosion on Jan Smuts Avenue has burnt Fibre cables. Repairs are underway. Randburg, Rosebank and Craighall are currently affected,” their tweet read.
“Due to the severity of this break we unfortunately can not provide an ETA. Teams are working on fixing this break ASAP,” the company said in a follow-up tweet.
