Exploding batteries delay Samsung Note 7 shipments

Johannesburg - Electronics maker Samsung has delayed international shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 amid reports of exploding batteries.

Reports of two device batteries exploding in Asia have been circulating the internet, with numerous videos being posted online.

The authenticity of the videos could not be confirmed. However, a Samsung representative told Reuters that shipments had been delayed owing to additional tests into product quality.

Reports suggested that charging the device without the original charger led to the damages.

Despite the rumours, numerous major retailers in South Africa are featuring the device on pre-order and Samsung South Africa told Fin24 that the local availability date was “still on track”.
