Elon Musk asks Twitter followers for advice on Trump travel ban

Chicago - Billionaire Elon Musk, chief executive officer of Tesla Motors, asked his 6.9m Twitter followers for suggestions on changes to US President Donald Trump’s order limiting immigration from seven predominantly Muslim nations.

Musk, who serves on Trump’s Strategic & Policy Forum, tweeted that he wanted proposals on “specific amendments” and he would “seek advisory council consensus & present to President.”

Trump on Friday issued an order suspending the admission of all refugees for 120 days.

Citizens of Syria, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and Libya would also be banned from entering the US for 90 days, while the government determines what information it needs to safely admit visitors. The advisory group consists of company CEOs including Uber Technologies’s Travis Kalanick, Walt Disney’s Bob Iger and JPMorgan Chase’s Jamie Dimon. The heads of US automakers have been reticent on the immigration order.

Leaders of Canada and Germany spoke out against the decision, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeting “to those fleeing persecution, terror & war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith.” Musk was critical of the policy in a tweet on Saturday.

“Many people negatively affected by this policy are strong supporters of the US,” Musk wrote. “They’ve done right, not wrong & don’t deserve to be rejected.”
