Johannesburg - Surging visitor demand has crashed South Africa’s largest e-commerce websites on #BlackFriday.
Since 00:01 on Friday morning, Takealot.com and websites across The Foschini Group (TFG) have been experiencing erratic behaviour.
Takealot, which is currently offline, took to Twitter to apologise to scores of users, who had experienced issues accessing and purchasing items from the website from the early hours of the morning.
“The @TAKEALOT website and apps are temporarily down due to overwhelming volumes. We’re working hard to resolve the issue and we hope to have the site operational as soon as possible. We apologise for any disappointment and we’ll have you back shopping ASAP,” the e-commerce platform said in a tweet.
Similarly, TFG websites including Markham, Fabiani, @Home and Sportscene – all of which are offering online customers discounted deals on various items, experienced erratic behaviour from midnight.
Takealot.com, which is currently running its 'Black Friday – Blue Dot Sale', and TFG group, which is offering customers up to 75% off products - experienced similar issues with their websites last year during #BlackFriday.
Sorry for all the slow loading experienced during our first hour live tonight - we’re steadying the ship and getting as many of you back online and through to checkout ASAP. Thanks for being so patient. pic.twitter.com/k1stQYbELd
