Johannesburg - Social media giant Twitter will allow its users to create voting polls “with just a couple of taps”, according to a statement from the company.
The social network, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), revealed on Wednesday that users will be able to create a two-choice poll right from the compose box that will remain live for 24 hours.
“You can vote on any poll, and how you voted is not shared publicly,” said Twitter in a statement.
“If you want the public’s opinion on anything — what to name your dog, who will win tonight’s game, which election issue people care most about — there’s no better place to get answers than on Twitter.
“For poll creators, it’s a new way to engage with Twitter’s massive audience and understand exactly what people think. For those participating, it’s a very easy way to make your voice heard,” said the company.
The social network said the functionality to include voting polls would be rolled out over the next few days on Apple iOS, Google Android, and on desktop at twitter.com.
The move by Twitter to introduce this functionality comes amid a renewed focus at the company.
Twitter, which has 316 million active monthly users, has been undergoing job cuts while it has a new chief executive officer in the form of Jack Dorsey.
The company is under pressure to monetise its audience as investors seek returns on the business.
