The News24 elections app that gave live results for the 2014 South Africa national elections won a gold pixel for browser based software, a silver pixel for their mobile application and a bronze award for their data inspired creative.
Head of product at 24.com Cathryn Reece told Fin24 that it was excellent recognition for the tireless work that the developers put into the app.
“We’re proud that we’ve been able to do something for . news in this country,” she said.
“[It was good] being able to work with data and technology to bring people news and information in a way they haven’t done before in this country,” she said. “It was such an exciting project and to be validated in this way by our peers in this industry is a big deal for us.”
Reece said there would be another elections app for the 2016 local municipal elections and said they used their lessons to create the GridWatch site, which helps users plan around load shedding in the country.
Other Media24 brands that won were Drum Magazine, Spree and Soccer Laduma.
