At least 150 SABC staff defrauded its medical aid

Cape Town – At least 150 SABC staff members have allegedly "colluded" with medical practitioners to defraud the broadcaster's Medscheme.

This is according to the SABC which has also vowed to act against them, and said it will expand its corruption investigation.

The SABC also claimed that the corruption goes much further. It plans to investigate other divisions where it said "corruption is probable", after the public broadcaster's preliminary investigations showed that more than 150 SABC employees are defrauding the medical aid scheme.

The fraud of Medscheme is said to have happened through the acquisition of various services in respect of marketing.

The SABC said it sees the fraud in a very serious light and that it plans to take "stern action".

The public broadcaster said it has "been made aware of some fraudulent activities that certain employees are engaged in" through its whistle-blowing programme and other reporting mechanisms.

The SABC is warning its staff to conduct business "in an ethical manner" and to refrain from any action it views as any form of misconduct.
