Samsung Gear 360
Johannesburg - Samsung has expanded its line of accessory devices in the country with the launch of new smartwatches, wireless headphones and their VR camera.
On Thursday, Samsung announced the availability of the Gear 360 – a dual camera device which captures images and videos in 360 degrees for viewing in virtual reality.
The Gear 360 records 3840x1920 resolution video and 25.9 megapixel photos and come with a tripod as part of its body.
Craige Fleischer, director at Samsung Electronics South Africa said: “This exceptional creation is going to offer people a whole new way to create and share their memories, in a format that’s more immersive than ever."
"These moments can then be relived through your Gear VR or Galaxy smartphone. With the Gear 360, you can capture life as it happens all around you,” he added.
Explaining the design of the Gear 360, Fleischer said that the inspiration came from the helmets astronauts wear in space.
"These helmets look sleek, seamless and minimal, but also feature very sturdy inner structures," he added.
Fleischer said that the Gear 360 was a 360-degree imaging tool designed for daily and outdoor use.
The device is also compatible with the Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, Note5, S7, S7 edge through the Samsung Gear 360 Manager app and is priced at R 6,999.
A day after the announcement of the Apple Watch Series 2 at the launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus – Samsung announced their latest wearable – the Gear 3 smartwatch.
Samsung South Africa Gear S3 will be available in South Africa by the fourth quarter of the year.
The smartwatch is light-weight at 57g and features Samsung’s Tizen software and has an always on Super AMOLED display.
It is also IP68 certified making it dust proof and water resistant over 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
For protection the device also features Corning Gorilla Glass SR+, specifically designed for wearable devices to provide a more scratch resistant display.
Fleische said that the new smartwatch features built-in speaker and GPS.
“Gear S3 marks a significant addition to our smartwatch portfolio and is not only a great smartwatch, but a sophisticated, elegant watch featuring a range of smart capabilities,” he said.
The company also announced the Samsung Gear Fit2 fitness and the Gear IconX wireless headphones, as part of their move toward fitness.
The Gear Fit2 sports band features GPS and heart rate monitor, for fitness tracking during workouts.
The Gear IconX launched before Apple’s AirPods – are Samsung’s solution to wireless headphones and fit in the user’s ear.
