Here's how to boost your Uber passenger star rating

If you use internet ride-sharing service Uber, the likelihood is that you’ve rated your driver on the app’s five star system.

But what you may not be aware of is that Uber driver-partners have been rating you as well.

READ: How to check your Uber passenger rating

“After each trip, riders and drivers are given the opportunity to rate one another based on their trip experience,” says Uber on its website.

“The rating system works to make sure that the most respectful riders and drivers are using Uber. Ratings are always reported as averages, and neither riders nor drivers will see the individual rating left for a particular trip,” says the company.

Fin24 on Tuesday explained how you can check your rating by following these steps: Opening your app, pressing on the ‘Help’ menu option, pressing on the ‘Account and Payment’ menu option, then choose ‘Account Settings and Ratings’ and then selecting ‘‘I’d like to know my rating’.

However, Uber also gives its riders tips on how to boost their ratings among drivers, according to a 2016 blog post from the company.

Here are ways in which you can boost your rating:

Dropping your pin

“Taking a few seconds to make sure your pin is dropped in the right place — or better yet, entering your pickup address — can save time and headaches,” says Uber in a blog post.

“Double check the pin is on the blue dot by pressing the little bullseye button located on the bottom left corner of your screen,” says the company.

Piling in

Uber also provides advice on how many passengers should enter a car.

“Most cars with Uber can only fit four riders,” says the company.

“If you’re in doubt about how many people your ride can fit, use this formula: number of seatbelts = number of riders,” says Uber.

Otherwise, the company says that Uber users can also looking to upgrade to the “uberXL or uberSUV options, which can fit up to six riders”.

Treat with care

Not dumping your greasy takeaway meal in an Uber car will also go a long way in boosting your rating, says Uber.

“The same rules from grade school apply. Please treat your driver (and their car) with care. It’s their own personal property, and let’s be honest: That greasy pizza can wait,” says Uber.

Uber further advises passengers not to rush their drivers.

“Even if you needed to be at your location, like, yesterday, please don’t encourage your driver to break traffic laws like illegal u-turns. They’re there for everyone’s safety,” says the company.

Being on time

Just like riders expect their driver to arrive on time, drivers also want their passengers to be at their pickup location in a timely manner.

“Driver-partners do everything they can to pick you up in under 10 minutes. Please try to return the favor by being ready to hop in your Uber when it arrives,” says the company.

If you’re running late, Uber advises you to kindly call or text your driver and let them know.

Say your name

Finally, just like when you’re watching out for your Uber driver’s registration number and car type, your driver also wants to be able to confirm who you are.

“Want to make sure you’re in the right ride? Simple: Just confirm your first name with your driver and ask them to do the same,” says Uber.
