Johannesburg - Mobile network Cell C on Monday launched its own fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service dubbed ‘C-Fibre’.
Cell C - which is South Africa’s third largest mobile network with over 22 million subscribers - has partnered with independent fibre network provider Vumatel in launching C-Fibre.
Vumatel launched in 2014 when it connected upmarket Johannesburg suburb Parkhurst. Since then, Vumatel has embarked on rolling out fibre broadband to other Johannesburg areas like Hurlingham, Glenadrienne, Hyde Park, Northcliff, Sharonlea and Olivedale.
Cell C, in its statement, said that it is also in discussions with other fibre providers across the country.
“In a world where content and technology are converging, customers are going to need high-speed and unrestricted access that will allow them to keep pace with their content consumption,” said Cell C CEO Jose Dos Santos in a statement.
