Johannesburg - Mobile broadband speeds of up to 150Mbps are available in five more suburbs from Telkom, but a promotional offer for the service involves a three year contract for R1 399 per month.
Last month, Telkom launched South Africa’s first LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network in Parkview, Johannesburg.
Now, the service has been rolled out to five more suburbs: Illovo and Melrose in Gauteng, Sea Point and Three Anchor Bay in Cape Town, and Umhlanga in KwaZulu-Natal.
“These suburbs now have access to peak internet connectivity, with speeds of up to 150 Mbps,” Telkom said in a statement.
At the Parkview LTE-A launch last month, Telkom said it planned to roll-out the offering to over 50 suburbs set by March 2015.
But customers looking to access LTE-A have to be prepared to commit to a three-year contract, at least for now.
“The promotional offer is available for R1399.00 per month over a 36 month contract,” Telkom said in its statement.
Telkom is in a drive to roll-out faster internet services across the country.
At the beginning of December, the telecoms company announced that its fibre to the home (FTTH) service is available in selected suburbs in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape.
FTTH internet offers faster speeds than the likes of ADSL packages.
And internet speeds on offer via Telkom’s FTTH packages range from 20Mbps to 100Mbps.
