Johannesburg - Mobile network Cell C plans to inject R427m in its Western Cape network.
The company said the aim of the upgrade is to boost stability and capacity of its mobile towers in the region.
“R427m will be invested in our network in the Western Cape (June to Dec 2015),” spokesperson for Cell C, Vinnie Santu, told Fin24.
“This includes upgrading our Radio Access Network (RAN) and rolling out new 3G and LTE sites in the region,” Santu said.
The company further sai it planned to roll out about 200 LTE sites in the Western Cape by the end of November 2015.
Cell C said that both 3G and LTE site installations will continue into 2016 and be part of a project to decrease “effects of radio interference that has become common in the Cape”.
The company also said that about eight out every ten of its existing and new 3G sites in the Western Cape will be enabled for dual carrier, which helps boost bandwidth.
Cell C’s announcement regarding its Western Cape investment also comes after the company said in April that it is investing R8bn in its next-generation LTE network.
