Cape Town – Sony’s new Xperia X smartphone has gone on sale in SA at a price point below its flagship Xperia Z5.
The device is available from Vodacom and MTN, the manufacturer announced.
But the Xperia X won’t be cheap from a company which has long had a reputation for premium priced devices.
On MTN, the device will sell for R599 on a My MTNChoice 100 contract and for R529 on a Vodacom Smart S plan. However, Vodacom is offering a R499 promotional contract from July 7 with a 10GB once-off data bundle.
On the Orange Store, the Xperia X sells for R9 840.
The smartphone is equipped with a 12.7cm display, 23 megapixel (MP) main camera and 13MP selfie shooter.
The Xperia also has a micro-SD card slot and a minimum of 32GB of storage space on-board.
Despite the Sony reputation for device manufacture, the Xperia X has come in for some criticism from tech bloggers.
Mobile Choice in the UK criticised the handset for being “Laggy, warms-up with regularity”. Stuff criticised the camera saying: “Camera can’t match the best” and Trusted reviews said the design was “boring”.
