Is Google's Pixel the best smartphone ever made?

Johannesburg - Google’s launch of the Pixel and Pixel XL has sparked hype from across the world after its announcement, and it is already being touted as ‘better than the iPhone’.

An analysis of the specifications of the Pixel and Pixel XL by Fin24 show that the device is very similar to the recently launched Xiaomi Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus - which already stand strong against the iPhone.

The only debatable features between the iPhone 7 and the Xiaomi Mi 5S was, of course, the chipset: Apple’s A10 Fusion versus the Snapdragon 821. Another debatable feature was the facing camera, with Apple featuring a 7 megapixel camera and Xiaomi, a 4 megapixel.

Google, though, with its new Pixel phones beats these specifications with an 8 megapixel selfie camera.

For Android fans, the choice is simple - the features in the Pixel and Pixel XL make Google’s first own-branded smartphones the best among the Android market right now.

On the quality of the Pixel phones' cameras, the industry standard for rating camera and lens image quality DxOMark gave the Pixel a rating of 89 - the highest rating of any smartphone available.

The Pixel and Pixel XL feature a 12 megapixel primary camera with phase detection as well as auto-focus.

The Pixel camera is also boasted to be able to capture pictures better than any smartphone in all light conditions.

That being said, closest competitors include the HTC 10, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Sony Xperia X Performance in this regard.

The Google devices also include a glass-aluminum body and fast fingerprint unlocking.

Google has unveiled its Pixel smartphone range.

The Pixel also comes in three colours - 'Very Black', 'Quite Silver' and 'Really Blue'.

Rivalling Apple's Siri, the Pixel is the first device to also feature the Google Assistant built-in.

The major differences that set the Pixel and iPhone 7 apart is screen resolution and battery life to support the display.

However, Google seems to have hit the mark on one of the most crucial, but probably ignored features of today's smartphones, because while the iPhone 7 Plus boasts 60 hours of music playback on its battery - the Pixel XL says 130 hours sounds better.

With the highest rated camera on a smartphone, extended battery life, the latest processor available for Android, many of the devices released in the market today cannot compare with the Pixel and Pixel XL.

The only foreseeable downside to the Pixel devices right now could be the price factor as it competes with devices such as the iPhone. In other words, the Pixel and Pixel XL should come in at around the same price as the devices from Apple.
