Huawei launches new hybrid laptops for SA

Johannesburg - Chinese giant Huawei has announced the availability of its new MateBook X and MateBook E tablet-laptop hybrids.

The MateBook X is a 13-inch fanless notebook designed with an 88% screen-to-body ratio and 4.4mm bezels.

It includes the 7th Generation Intel Core i7 or i5 processors, Dolby Atmos Sound System and a fingerprint-ready power button with encrypted chip.

The MateBook E is a smaller notebook with a screen-to-body ratio of 84%, a Folio Keyboard with an angle of adjustment that can reach up to 160° and a 7th Generation Intel Core i5 processor with 2K touch screen display.

In 2016, the electronics manufacturer announced the launch of the first MateBook device at an event at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It was never officially released in South Africa, but was available at selected Huawei stores.

However, the company has since seen a demand for the hybrid product in the country, with the devices currently available at at Makro, Matrix Warehouse and Computer Mania Online.

“We are extremely excited to finally bring these MateBooks to South Africa,” said Likun Zhao, General Manager of Huawei Consumer SA.

“The MateBook X and E are the first devices that feature the Dolby Atmos Sound System and will complement our smartphones, wearables and smart IoT solutions. The MateBook X and MateBook E meet our vision for consumers to have a complete, connected digital world,” Zhao said.

The devices feature the Windows 10 operating system.

The MateBook X models are available with an Intel i5 processor, with 8GB RAM and 256GB  storage for R23 999. The i7 with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage will sell for R25 999.

The MateBook E will feature 4GB of RAM with 256GB of storage for R19 999.
