accreditation

Barcelona - Chinese electronics manufacturer Huawei has announced three new products as part of the global smartphone conference - Mobile World Congress 2018 - currently taking place in Barcelona, Spain.

Also at the event, the company announced a new 5G commercial chipset and that its latest flagship smartphone following after the P10 - the Huawei P20 - will be unveiled on March 27.

The company made new strides in notebook development when it announced the new MateBook X Pro which features the world’s first FullView Touch-screen.

The notebook features a 13.9 inch screen spanning 91% of its face for an almost bezel-less display.

Huawei followed in the tradition of the MateBook Pro launched last year by embedding its fingerprint scanner into its power button for the MateBook X Pro, which the company boasts will startup the machine from off to on in less than 8 seconds.

Under the hood, the MateBook X Pro features an 8th-generation Core i7 processor with 16GB of RAM and 512 of onboard memory.

The device also features an Nvidia GeForce MX10 graphics card with 2GB of RAM.

The Huawei MateBook X Pro also trumps most of its rivals on specification-to-specification comparison.

While the notebook fairs 0.1 inches smaller than the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with a 14 inch it beats the Dell XPS 13, HP Spectre 13 and Lenovo Yoga 920 all at 13.3 inches.

What makes the MateBook X Pro even more attractive its that its 91% screen-to-body ratio, sets the X Pro in a league of its own.

The MateBook X Pro is also one of very few notebooks to offer a 4 speaker Dolby Atmos experience for high-quality audio bolstered by treble and bass speakers.

Huawei also boasts that the MateBook X Pro will maintain 12 hours of battery.

The company also announced its new MediaPad M5 tablets in 8 and 10 inch variations.

The tablets will feature 2560×1600 displays, a Kirin 960 quad-core processor, 4GB of RAM and either 32, 64 or 128 GB of internal storage.

The MediaPad M5 features a 8 megapixel facing camera and 13 megapixel rear camera.

After announcing the new 5G chipset, company CEO, Richard Yu said that the faster internet speeds offered by Huawei inspired growth in new industries such as driverless vehicles, smartphones, smart homes and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Huawei’s P20 launch is expected to take place at the end of March in Paris, France.

Kyle Venktess is attending Mobile World Congress from February 28 to March 1, on invitation from Huawei Technologies South Africa.
