Durban - Global search giant Google is expected to unveil its latest smartphone device on October 4.
Previous Google phones have been launched in partnership with major smartphone manufacturers such as LG and Samsung.
Rumours are that Google will return to HTC, which manufactured the search giant's first smartphone. The company is expected to produce two new smartphones each, respectively in 5 inch and 5.5 inch form factors.
If further online speculation is to be believed, Google is also expecting to ditch its iconic Nexus brand in favour of just a “G”.
The company posted a video across all its social media platforms on Monday with the description in the video link stating “Something new to love on Oct. 4.” with a link to their website google.com/tenfour.
The video shows a Google search bar morphing into a shape of a smartphone, with the date 'October 4' and a Google “G” logo.
On Twitter, the official Google account tweeted “October is coming. #madebygoogle” with the same message posted to the official Facebook page.
Since 2010, Google has partnered with major electronics manufacturers with their first device - the Nexus One - being developed in partnership with Taiwanese company HTC.
The successors, the Nexus and Galaxy Nexus, were both produced by Samsung, in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
In 2012 and 2013, LG produced the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, with the Nexus 6 manufactured by Motorola Mobility in 2014.
Google returned to LG for production of the Nexus 5X in 2015 and Chinese mobile giant, developed the Nexus 6P in the same year.
