Dell to bring newly launched laptops to SA by February

Johannesburg - Computer-maker Dell has announced that it will be bringing its XPS 13 and the first XPS 15 2-in-1 laptop to South Africa by February. 

The laptops were unveiled recently at the Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES) 2018. 

The Dell XPS 13 features an InfinityEdge 4K Ultra HD display with narrower borders to allow for up to 80% more thermal headroom, while the thinner and lighter design dissipates heat using similar technologies that were used in the Mars Rover. 

Under the hood the XPS 13 features 8th Gen Intel Core processors and components.

The slightly larger, Dell XPS 15 also features the 8th Gen Intel Core process with a Radeon RX Vega M graphics card. 

The XPS 15 also features the InfinityEdge 4K Ultra HD display can be flipped into a variety of configurations, including tent and tablet modes.

“These devices are built for purpose and designed with the feedback of our loyal customers. But the new XPS 13 and XPS 15 2-in-1 don’t just reinforce this culture. They set the new level,” said Chris Buchanan, client solutions director for Dell EMC.

The new laptops are finished by aluminium, carbon fibre and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection of the display. 

In December, Dell EMC recently celebrated a year since the computer (Dell) and data storage (EMC) companies merged.

In an earlier interview with Fin24, Doug Woolley, general manager of Dell EMC South Africa said that the company was pushing to released new products and services to the country throughout the year.

He also added that hyperscale cloud data centres, Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) will shape the technology industry in 2018. 

“It is digitally empowered nations which embrace these kinds of technologies that will lead the next century. This is not an exaggeration. We must all play our part to make sure SA and the African continent don’t miss that opportunity,” Woolley told Fin24.

According to the Next Era of Human-Machine Partnership report from Dell Technologies and the Institute for the Future (IFTF) released recently, mega cloud services, AR and AI paint a promising picture for 2018.
