Cape Town – Alcatel has announced that its lower cost PIXI 3 (4.5) is available in South Africa.
The smartphone will retail for R899 on prepaid or R179 per month on a Vodacom uChooseFlexi 200 contract.
The smartphones features an 8MP (megapixel) main camera and 2MP selfie shooter.
Under the skin, it’s powered by a 1GHz dual SIM processor mated to 512MB of RAM. It has just 4GB of memory on board so users would likely use the micro-SD card slot to expand memory.
In SA, the PIXI faces off against the Vodacom Smart Kicka (R499) and the MTN Steppa 2 (R599) and it is unclear whether Chinese parent company TCL Communication will launch the 4G version here.
The PIXI has an 11.4cm (4.5 inch) display and runs Google’s Android version 4.2 operating system.
