Cape Town – Xiaomi has launched its South African smartphone with aggressive pricing in partnership with local retailers.
The Chinese brand announced on Friday that its Mi 4 flagship would be available on contract on both MTN and Vodacom networks.
The Mi 4 will be available at Game, Dion Wired, Incredible Connection and Makro on Vodacom contracts starting at R229 per month and from MTN stores starting at R289 per month.

Xiaomi has made its intentions clear to disrupt the local market is launching the range before the holiday season.
“We are well in time for the holiday shopping season with what we believe to be the best value-for-money premium smartphone deal in South Africa,” said RJ van Spaandonk, president of MIA, local distributors for Xiaomi.
In SA, the brand has to contend with competition from Chinese brands Huawei and Hisense as well as market leader Samsung which has 56.6% market share thanks to devices across a wide price spectrum.
The Xiaomi brand has 5.6% global market share according to International Data Corporation and is intent on expending into developing markets such as Africa and Latin America.
