Cape Town – San Francisco headquartered internet on-demand builder Click Labs has set up shop in Johannesburg with a view to an African expansion.
Click Labs specialises in the “on-demand” application market where the firm builds systems that enables management of high demand industries such as ride-sharing.
Click Labs has already take an equity position in Durban-based 'Nurses On Call' which dispatches medical professionals mainly in the private health care industry.
The local office, Click Labs Africa, opens its doors officially on March 1 as the firm eyes global growth.
“The expansion is in line with the company’s vision to have presence in 30 countries across the world in next five years and adds to its offices in Seattle, Birmingham and Brisbane opened in the last 12 months,” Click Labs said in a statement.
‘Touchpoint’
“The on-demand economy offers South Africa an opportunity to create new employment opportunities to stimulate economic growth and help curb potential social unrest. Click Labs Africa has a highly skilled team positioned to capture the on demand market,” the company said.
It offers three platforms: Juggernaut, focused on “entrepreneur and enterprise level initiatives”; Tookan, a mobile workforce manager; Taxi Hawk which is a scheduling software manager.
“This launch will enable Click Labs to establish a touchpoint in the South African market, where the start-up scene is beginning to show real promise,” said chief executive Parag Jain.
A number of fin/tech incubators have made their home in SA and Jain said that the continent was ripe for growth in the tech sector.
“As investor confidence increases in Africa’s most advanced economy, there are going to be many opportunities to make a real impact especially considering the lack of development talent in Africa in general.”
