Cape Town – Non-governmental organisation Project Isizwe has incorporated a company to drive its application roll-out plan.
The government Wi-Fi project is involved with the Namola security application in the City of Tshwane modelled along the lines of an Uber-for-security programme.
In a successful pilot, people were able to summon a police escort within minutes from a smartphone button. However, as the NGO eyes a scaled roll-out, it has had to weigh its management of the programme.
“Namola forced us to think carefully about our structures. It didn’t make sense that Isizwe runs it (Isizwe is Wi-Fi infrastructure),” Isizwe CEO Alan Knott-Craig jnr told Fin24.
“But our group policy is to never make money from government contracts,” he added.
The organisation will at the end of September launch Happimo with Craig Rivett as chief executive.
“This will be the vehicle we use to help governments use software to make their jobs easier and help citizens. We’ll be focused on safety and security, agri-tech, health-tech and edu-tech,” said Knott-Craig who will act as executive chair of the entity.
Namola is the first product from Happimo and Knott-Craig promised that a further seven products are scheduled for launch before August 2016.
