Johannesburg - Local technology group Altron says it plans to sell the subscriber base of its phone service provider business Altech Autopage.
Altron's planned move comes after Nashua Mobile sold its subscriber base to local mobile networks last year and closed down.
Altron said in a cautionary announcement to shareholders on Tuesday that it is “at an advanced stage of negotiations regarding the potential disposal of Altech Autopage’s GSM subscriber bases”.
“Altron’s decision to dispose of these subscriber bases has been based on, among others, the impacts of the ongoing mobile termination rate reductions, as well as continued industry and consumer deflationary pressures,” read the company announcement.
“Accordingly this business has been classified as a discontinued operation for purposes of the company’s 2015 annual financial statements,” the company added.
Altech Autopage is an independent service provider that represents all of South Africa’s mobile network operators.
The business currently sells mobile products, packages and services nationwide to consumers and businesses.
