Cape Town - Getting what you want becomes easy when saving becomes a habit, according to Audrey Mothupi, head of inclusive banking at Standard Bank [JSE:SBK].
She was part of a roundtable discussion held by the bank ahead of Savings Month.
Mothupi said saving also helps you avoid stress when unexpected expenses come up, like household repairs or your child needing to go on a school trip. "Then savings gives you something to fall back on."
By depositing regularly into a suitable savings account, your money will grow steadily and include interest paid to help you on your way, she said.
"You can also set a saving target, for example to have R2 000 saved within three months’ time.
Or you could set a target to save R150 for school expenses within three months’s time, by saving R50 per month."
The trick is in taking that first step, she said.
