It is very important to look for is a reputable kitchen company because it can go horribly wrong, he said.
When looking at doing a new kitchen for your house your design is really important, he said.
“You need to decide if you are designing the kitchen for practicality and livability or if you are looking to resell your house because that is going to influence the design of your kitchen completely.”
He said kitchens designed using solid wood or compounded wood is not only more appealing but also very long lasting.
Features like bulk heads and dropped ceilings add more character to the kitchen, advised Szolkiewicz, adding that natural stone features, wood cladding and gas fireplaces are very popular for modern houses.
“If you find yourself driving through the Bryanston, Fourways areas one of the big things these days is natural stone or wood cladding.
“It’s actually a very interesting process, these stones get delivered to construction sites as massive boulders and masonry workers will actually chisel out these rocks from those boulders and install them,” he explained.
“A gas fireplace in a strong contrasting colour to the rest of your house makes for a strong feature. You spend a lot of money on a fireplace so you need to show it off.”
However, the secret to making a house more attractive is all about contrasts, said Szolkiewicz.
