Eskom expects no loadshedding on Sunday

Eskom took to Twitter to announce that it did not expect to implement loadshedding on Sunday but reminded consumers that the system remained constrained and vulnerable.

The power utility managed to keep to its word from a notice released on Friday, in which it said loadshedding could be avoided during the weekend.

However, Eskom maintained the warning that while it is trying to main capacity, the risk always remains that loadshedding may have to be implemented at short notice if the system became compromised.

"Additional generation units are planned to return to service early next week, which will improve the power system outlook for the coming week. This will further reduce the possibility of loadshedding," the Eskom notice said.

The utility's notice said unplanned breakdowns or outages were at 11 497 MW as of 16:15 on Saturday afternoon and planned maintenance at 6 213 MW.

Eskom reminded consumers that the possibility of increased loadshedding remained for the next 18 months.
