Cape Town - It has been a rough week for the embattled Eskom and degenerating labour federation Cosatu.
Eskom's chair Zola Tsotsi resigned right before he was seemingly going to be booted out. He has since been replaced by Dr Ben Ngubane who has barely settled in the 'chair' but is having to lash out at the opposition to defend his appointment.
Cosatu General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi was dismissed with immediate effect and it remains to be seen whether he will challenge his former colleagues or throw his lot in with Numsa's United Front. Spokesperson Patrick Craven also threw in the towel, saying he "cannot defend the indefensible".

Tsotsi quits as Eskom chairperson:
1. Jadwiga Richmond - "Tsotsi obviously has no confidence in himself as he has stated that he has resigned so that the power utility can concentrate on their core issues. As chairman one would think that he would be qualified and capable of sorting out their core issues, but obviously not... I just hope you don't leave with a big bag of golden nuggets!" - READ STORY

2. Gary Guy - "Everything that everyone says about this is all irrelevant... it is about one thing only - getting the right people and mechanisms in place to secure the Russian nuclear deal... " - READ STORY
Chamber urges Eskom to hire experts:
3. Pieter Steyn - "If you want to hire SA experts you will need to hire a number of white (people) - a no-no politically. If you hire internationally, irrespective of race you are going to run into serious delays due to our 'progressive' visum requirements. Bottom line, you can talk and suggest as much as you want but the ANC have painted themselves and the country into a very dark and miserable corner. Why(?) - no one capable of seeing the big picture. Why(?) - enrichment myopia." - READ STORY
Eskom acting chair lashes out at critics:
4. Lawrence Robert Atkinson - "The 'trick' about being in an acting position is that you have reduced responsibility and reduced repercussions if you fall. Which means you've half a person in each position. Useful in a failing/failed organisation! Blackouts, here we come." - READ STORY
Cosatu expels Vavi
5. Emone Nomore - "Cosatu is basically the ANC in disguise. The workers that still support Cosatu are fooling themselves and doing a dis-service to workers' rights. Vavi should now try and build a real workers' party, not a "puppet party" like Cosatu" - READ STORY

8. Joe Black - "I'm really starting to think that somebody somewhere misunderstood the meaning of the words 'creating business opportunities'. Not just these shams of creating fictional revenue streams to the most politically connected." - READ STORY

9. Peter O'Connor - "I would rather pay R1 extra per kilo than have US chicken. Keep our people in biz even if it costs a little bit extra. Look at our clothing industry. Clothes were more expensive before but thousands were still employed and people cherished their clothes." - READ STORY
Vodacom contract increase legal, says attorney
10. Ben Stone - "When it comes to a legal point of view, I do not entirely agree with this article. The National Credit Act clearly states that a salesperson must in very clear language go through the terms and conditions with a client. The very fact that most people are upset about the increase, is the fact that Vodacom's right to change it was never communicated with the client on signing. The average Vodacom contract customer was clearly brought under the impression that they signed a "fixed" contract of Rxxx amount per month." - READ STORY
