Cape Town - Volkswagen products should be avoided at all costs, says a Fin24 user who believes the consumer has been taken for a ride.
The German automobile giant is at the centre of a scandal in which US authorities accuse the company of cheating on diesel emission tests.
The German automaker admitted to US clean air regulators that in some of its diesel cars it used a so-called "defeat device", software designed to defeat emissions tests.
Fin24 user Taki says the scandal casts a great deal of doubt on VW's past operations and makes the consumer a victim.
He writes: "Firstly, we don’t know if this blatant falsification is happening for the first time. It’s so blatant that one has to wonder if and how many times this has happened before without being noticed.
"So if [they've] done it before and got away with it, why not take it to a new level?
"Secondly, and I believe this to be an even bigger issue, is the fact that the very same [people] that has made the group what it is today, the consumer, has been taken for a ride, let alone the different governments.
"I strongly believe that the group's products should be avoided at any cost.
"Let this be a lesson for all the others, as they all falsify their fuel consumption figures with impunity."
