Feedback on e-tolls still streaming in

Johannesburg - With e-tolls in Gauteng in full swing, more Fin24 users are coming forward to tell of their experiences. Amidst the complaints there are also those who say they are happy with the e-toll system.

Deon Elsworth writes that his company had registered all its company vehicles for e-tolls. He writes:

On the December 30 we topped up our account with R2 000, but it does not reflect on our account.

I have sent Sanral proof of payment twice and still they have not credited our account.

They have now asked for a cancelled cheque as a proof of payment. What?!

This has to be the first time we have ever been asked by any of our suppliers for a cancelled cheque as a proof of payment.

So we are now not getting the discounted fee and our account has been sent to their collection department.

E-tolls cannot work if this is the competency of Sanral.

Another Fin24 user thinks the Sanral system is "self destructing". He writes:

Already, the Sanral system is self-destructing. The continued boycott of e-tags by motorists must continue.

The only way that Sanral can make the system become a cash-cow is when motorists submit.

I've totally avoided the roads, but come next week the roads will become busy again. Then users may be forced to use the highways.

Don't pay. Ask for proof. Tie the system up with paperwork. It is not enforcable to insist that motorists get tagged.

Another user returned from holiday only to discover that his e-toll account had been handed over for collection. He writes:

I returned from holiday and shortly afterwards received an sms that my e-toll account had been handed over for collection, as thousands of other motorists did.

I immediately called the help line and requested an invoice or statement for the amount.

About an hour later I did receive an e-mail, but again only a demand for payment, no invoice or statement.

How can they expect anyone to just pay without any proof of where and when the e-toll roads were used?

My other great concern is this: If I travel on an e-toll road and pass a gantry, but get off at the next off-ramp before the next gantry, how do they know how many kilometers I traveled on the e-toll road?

Another Fin24 user blows off steam about e-tolls. He writes:

The e-tolls won't get a cent from me.

We can't keep giving money to greedy govenment, which only cares about their cronies and inner circle.

I am not being rude by saying this, but the government knows we need no e-tolls.

There are plenty of ways they can recoup the money spent on the Gauteng freeway upgrade, why this crap of a system?

This Fin24 user complains about Sanral's demand for payment without having sent her an invoice. She writes:

I have received no invoice received from Sanral. They sent an SMS to my sons’s number demanding payment.

I phoned them and advised that they have the incorrect info. They said they would e-mail me the account even though Sanral failed to do so from the onset.

I told them no, in terms of the law you need to post it to me. I gave them my postal address. Let’s see if they send the requested info.

A user writes about his frustration due to still waiting for a copy of the terms and conditions. He writes:

I am a registered e-toll user. I was promised that the  terms and condtions copy will be email to me.To date, no such has arrived.

I am sure they debitted my account and no invoice.

I have pre-loaded my e-tags account with R2 000 to see if this will not encourage the system to grab it.

So far its like I am paying for a white elephant. The website doesn't give the photo proof if my trips.

The system is mired with problems.I wish the government can just scrap it.

Sanral could not give any proof of gantries passed to this user. He writes:

I went to Sanral's offices to check how much I owed and the lady told me R27.

But when I demanded a proof showing all the gantries I had passed they told me their system doesn't show that and that it only shows car registration and amount.

How do I know if the amount is really correct without proof showing the names of gantries that I passed?

This Fin24 user was surprised when he went to register for e-tolls. He writes:

When registering at Cedar Square I was informed that there is a Toyota Conquest under my name and I don't own a Toyota Conquest.

I intend following up next week sometime.

This user found a contratiction on his first e-tolls statement. He writes:

The first statement I pulled online had three entries. In the second entry my car was listed as class B, which is a truck as far as I know and the invoice was more expensive than entries 1 and 3.

A Fin24 user was told he owes e-tolls when he has not used any toll roads. He writes:

I today received an SMS stating I owe Sanral R158 odd. I have not used the e-toll roads at all.

I am not registered for an e-tag. Further, I am concerned that they have my cell number.

This user needs an invoice as proof. He writes:

I have received an SMS advising me that I have an amount overdue of R.697 for two weeks of usage of the highway from Malibongwe on-ramp to the Marlboro turn-off and back.

If this is not paid immediately, it will be handed over.

Unless I have an official invoice I will not pay, as I need to claim this amount back, but with proof of invoice. The amount also sounds very dubious.

Amidst the outcry against e-tolls there are, however, those who are not complaining. A Fin24 user writes:

I must be the villain of all villains.

I have had my e-tags since they were released. I love the wider roads. I love the much fewer potholes. I love the billing system. I love the new lights on the freeways.

And I am prepared to pay for it.

I have an e-tag. I have prepaid. Sanral does not have my bank account details. I pay as I use and so far there have been zero problems at all.

I receive my invoice electronically. I manage how much money to pay in and for me the system works.

I respect the rights of others to disapprove and disagree.

I just wish they would respect me and my rights.

I am a happy customer.

Another satisfied e-tolls user writes:

I have my personal two vehicles tagged. I have loaded my account with R400.

The ease of passing through the Bakwana toll plazas is a breeze. I don't have to stand in long queues and waste fuel.

As a registered user I can download a detailed statement with photo's and with the discount I pay very little.

Thanks Sanral. Works for me.
