E-tolls - A wake-up call for voters

Fin24 user Thobani Mbhele advises voters to think carefully before casting their ballet:

Elections are on the way. In the next few months headlines will be about the parties campaigning for our votes.

The e-toll saga should be a wake-up call to the fellow voters as they head to poll stations. They should really ask themselves whether they are still going to vote for the government that does not put the interest of the public first.

It goes without saying that the current government is the most corrupt government which exploits tax payers’ money.

Never have we seen so much re-structuring in the government as it is happening right now. This is a clear indication of incompetent individuals being placed in positions that they are not capable to hold.

Events such as the text books in Limpopo, Schabir Shaik’s parole, ambiguity regarding the president’s Nkandla homestead and ultimately e-tolls should really leave voters with questions to answer prior to casting their votes.

It is about time we as voters create competition amongst the dominating parties in order to ensure that service delivery and meeting the needs of our society becomes priority compared to the current situation where only people on the top level are benefiting at the expense of the tax-payers.

Before voting, one should ask what loyalty is if it would not result in good service. What’s good about voting for individuals who have personal agendas that does not in any way benefit the public?

As for me, the e-toll system has been a wake-up call and I say no to government that looks after itself instead of the interest of the majority.
